Bryant John Monroe, age 69, of Arlington, VA, passed away with dignity on July 23, 2025 after a courageous 10 year battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Bryant was born on January 22, 1956 in Farmingdale, NY, son of the late John (Jack) and Dorothy Monroe.
His memory lives on through all of those who loved him and wanted more time with him. His wife of 33 years, Kathleen Kircher; his children, Olivia and Emilie Monroe; his dear sister, Darlene Clasper and her daughter, Katelyn; twin nephews, Jared and Hayden and their children. Bryant will also be missed by his sister and brothers-in-laws, all who have loved him as their own brother, and their children who loved their Uncle Bryant.
We all remember him as fun-loving and very intelligent, always ready for a political discussion, history and music-about which he was an expert in an expanse of genres.
He was a passionate liberal and an activist and was proud of his one run in with the law, arrested for attending a protest against injustice.
Bryant graduated from Chaminade High School in Long Island. He received a BA in History and a Masters in Public Administration from SUNY Albany. Bryant was accepted into the prestigious Presidential Management internship program, where he began his career in government. He was passionate about his work as a Senior Project Manager for the Office of Economic Adjustment at the Department of Defense. In this role, he helped communities recover from the economic consequences of government base closures and Defense contract terminations. He directed successful redevelopment projects throughout the United States. Bryant was held in high regard by elected officials in government and trusted and valued at his workplace.
Bryant (“Bry”, “B”) had a lifetime of long and meaningful friendships including high school where he was Class President; government internships; his professional colleagues, his fellow volunteers and his beloved neighbors who became like family. Bryant made time to develop and nurture friendships throughout his life. He considered these friendships as gifts. He and Kathy hosted traditional New Years Eve parties and celebrated over many years where Bryant enjoyed an occasional cigar and bourbon.
Bryant was taken far too young but his family finds comfort in knowing that Bryant fit 100 years of living, loving and adventure in the time he had. Special highlights include his honeymoon to Italy, vacationing in Cabo, a second honeymoon in Paris, traveling to Vietnam to bring home Emilie and parasailing in Aruba, numerous ski trips in Vermont and many summer vacations at Keuka Lake, Knoebels amusement park and exploring Maine.
His family will miss his constant smile, his sense of humor like his hysterical laughter at Young Frankenstein and Ace Ventura Pet Detective to name a few. Bryant had a fun way of eating his way through America with many stops to candy stores, ice cream shops and bakeries while on family trips.
Bryant’s commitment to his community and country during his 40+ years of volunteerism including Big Brothers, Arlington County and Montessori Education, all while being a loving and supportive Dad.
Bryant’s passion for music included concerts by the Grateful Dead, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jackson Browne and bluegrass concerts in the mountains.
Kathy, Olivia and Emilie wish to express their appreciation and gratitude for the staff at Ardens Courts where Bryant resided for the last three years.
Bryant’s family will have a Celebration of his life on October 18, 2025 at The Woman’s Club of Arlington from 3-6 p.m.. Please join our family and friends to remember Bryant and share stories about him.
