Darwin Dale Bradshaw, of Manassas, Virginia, passed away on October 17, 2025, at the age of 67. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on August 3, 1958, Dale lived authentically and joyfully, inspiring countless people with his flair, compassion, and boundless energy.
Dale was a graduate of Old Dominion University and the St. Louis Conservatory of Music, earning degrees in Business Administration and Mass Communications, along with a minor in Piano Performance. His love of music led him to perform for three years with a Vocal Chamber Music ensemble, serving as President in his final year. He also directed, choreographed, and wrote programs for traveling youth groups, bringing hope and creativity to juvenile detention centers and prison outreach programs. For seven years, Dale served as a motivational speaker and youth minister within Virginia’s Juvenile Court system, touching lives with his belief in second chances.
Dale’s charisma shone brightly in front of the camera and microphone. He served as an on-air television personality and fundraising chief for a Virginia-based non-profit Christian family television station. He also hosted and moderated radio talk shows with Willis Enterprises, where his wit, warmth, and insight made him a beloved voice in the community.
For more than forty years, Dale Bradshaw was a trailblazer in multiple pageant and modeling systems, inspiring generations of young people. Dale had a gift for seeing the best in every person he met and helping them see it too. He devoted himself to the Miss America Organization, serving with both the Miss Maryland and Miss Virginia Pageants. What began as local volunteer work blossomed into a lifelong commitment. Serving on the Miss Maryland Board, he became a driving force in fundraising, recruitment, and mentorship. As Business Manager for several reigning Miss Marylands, Dale helped make their year of service extraordinary. Many credit him with not only guiding them professionally but also making them feel truly seen, valued, and celebrated. As a local director in Virginia, he also mentored Cassie Donegan, who became Miss Virginia’s Teen 2013, later earned a Top 5 national finalist placement, and most recently, was crowned Miss America 2026. Dale’s belief in her—like his belief in so many others—helped light the path to success.
In 2024 he joined the Miss Virginia Board of Directors and revitalized the Little Sisters—Virginia’s Stars—program, expanding it by nearly 400 percent in just 18 months. Hundreds of girls across the Commonwealth found role models, friendships, and self-confidence that will shape their futures for years to come and carry on his legacy.Dale also spent over two decades with Barbizon USA, beginning as an educator and rising to Director of Education. His dedication shaped the futures of countless young people, instilling confidence and professionalism. Later, as Senior Executive Passport to Discovery Ambassador, he guided aspiring youth toward success with encouragement and vision.
As CEO of Royal Crown Productions International, Dale worked in the fashion and model placement industry on regional, national, and international levels, overseeing boutique agencies and opening doors for new talent. He also served as National Operations Director for the Miss American Teenage Pageant, expanding scholarships and creating opportunities for younger divisions and male participants. His influence was recognized in 2014 when Supermodel Magazine named him one of the “10 Most Beautiful Industry Professionals,” and he graced their 2011 cover as a “Super Role Model” for today’s youth.
Dale’s faith was central to his life. In 2017 Dale joined the Metropolitan Community Church of Northern Virginia (“A Church Home for All People, No Exceptions, No Kidding”), located in Fairfax, Virginia, and he became active in ministry there, leading Community prayers, and serving as the Congregational Care Minister. Soon he was leading the outreach ministry, special activities team, and the Feed The Homeless Ministry Team, offering dignity and kindness to those in need. Dale was also instrumental in the keeping the church community connected during the COVID pandemic, sending cards and letters to help fend off the isolation that many church members were feeling, and as soon as possible, he and his partner, Lee Shadwick, began once again hosting BINGO fundraisers for the church. On April 25, 2021, Dale and Lee were joined in Holy Matrimony by the Pastor of MCC of Northern Virginia in a beautiful and colorful ceremony. Dale remained very active with MCC NoVA all though his illness, a testament to his courage and devotion.
Dale is preceded in death by his father, Bernard E. Bradshaw of Virginia Beach, and his mother, Marie Emma Scott Bradshaw, a native of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He is survived by his beloved spouse, Thomas (Lee) Shadwick, who shared in his journey of love, laughter, and adventure.
Dale Bradshaw’s life was a testament to authenticity, creativity, and service. He lit up every room he entered, uplifted every person he met, and left behind a legacy of joy, empowerment, and love. His impact will continue to ripple through the lives of the countless people he inspired.
