On Tuesday, September 13, 2022, Duane Thomas (Tom) Grocott, passed away at the age of 58. Tom was born on April 29, 1964 in Sioux Falls, SD to Dennis and Donna (Munce) Grocott. He received his degree in psychology from Luther College in Decorah, IA in 1986, and, most recently, worked as a recruiter for AT&T for over 15 years. In August, 1995, he moved to the Washington, DC area to begin a 27-year relationship with his partner, Tom Michalisko. They raised five cats (not all at the same time); Belle, Miss P, Elsie Mae, Friday, and Abby (still surviving).
Tom enjoyed outdoor physical activity such as cycling – both road and mountain – hiking and rollerblading. He also appreciated classical music and good wine, especially red Burgundy. Most of all, Tom was known for his gift of gab, love of history – factual or otherwise – and ability to make people laugh. He touched many lives in ways more positive than he could imagine and will be deeply missed.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Donna, and father, Dennis. He is survived by: sisters, Denise (and Jeff) Debates, Dee (and Al) Grode; his brother, Daniel ”Boomer” (and Joni) Grocott, and his partner, Tom Michalisko (and his cat, Abby). He was a very special uncle to his 8 nieces and nephews.
