Jan Thomas passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, just three weeks after the loss of her husband and soulmate of over 60 years, Cecil Thomas. Her kindness, compassion, and commitment to others were her hallmarks. She lived by the belief in helping her community and those in need.
Jan was a dedicated biology teacher who spent 30 years inspiring students at Laurel School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, before continuing her career at Whitfield School and Rosati-Kain Catholic School in St. Louis, Missouri. Seeing her students thrive and reach their potential brought her immense joy.
A woman of faith and service, Jan was a Deacon at Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Cleveland and an active member of Stevens Ministry at Ladue Chapel in St. Louis
She was a devoted grandmother, always ready for any adventure, from helicopter rides over the Grand Canyon to cheering at ball games. She treasured time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jan is survived by her two daughters, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, beloved nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless friends. Her siblings, Rosemary Culbertson, Bob Mitts, and Donnie Mitts, held a special place in her heart.
Now reunited with Cecil, Jan’s legacy of love and kindness lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be missed.
