OBITUARY: Josephine (JoJo) Charlotte Duell Gee, 71, Mother, Grandmother, and United States ARMY Veteran, of Centreville, Virginia, passed away September 17, 2026, at the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, of cardiac failure. She was born June 29, 1955, in Houston, Texas, the fifth of eight children born to Dr. Arthur and Reine Duell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley Eifort Gee, and also her parents, Arthur and Reine.
Josephine enjoyed a loving childhood growing up in Fayetteville, Arkansas. As a “middle child” she was the “heart and soul” of the Duell family and while she was her father’s “little chickadee;” from birth, she owned an “Indomitable Spirit,” which was the source of her courage throughout her life. She attended the Fayetteville Public Schools, was a Girl Scout, and played flute in the Fayetteville High School Marching Band. Josephine was a 1973 graduate of Fayetteville High School and a 1978 a graduate of the Fayetteville Business College. In that same year, she enlisted in the United States ARMY. She completed her Basic and Advanced Military training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and received an assignment to Field Station Berlin, in West Berlin Germany. While in Germany for the next four years, Josephine was proud to serve her country, enjoyed the opportunity to travel Europe, but best of all, she met and fell in love with her future husband, Bradley Gee.
Josephine and Bradley were married November 27, 1982 in Fort Worth, TX. Together they lived an exciting life steered by Bradley’s career. Residing in Hawaii, Germany again, England, West Virginia, and Virginia. Their son, Christopher Nigel Kalani Gee, was born in Hawaii in 1984, and their daughter, Megan Alice Gee, was born in Virginia in 1988. Together, they showed their children the world, like Josephine’s favorite sites: the Alps of France and Switzerland, and authentic Polish Pottery. However, tragedy struck in 2005 when Bradley passed away due to cardiac arrest.
Josephine restarted her career with the singular motivation to see her children succeed in school, and ultimately achieve their respective professional goals. She retired from the Fairfax County Health Department in 2023. Josephine’s greatest joys were exploring new places, reading, and seeing her two children become respected professionals in their own right. One of her greatest delights was being a great Mother-in-law and a special Grammy to her young grandson Arthur.
Josephine is survived by her son Christopher (and spouse Jessie) Gee of Oak Hill, VA; her daughter Megan (and spouse Sebastian) Sejas; her grandson, Arthur Sejas of Centreville, VA; and brother-in-law Steve (Nancy) Gee of Jane Lew, WV. Also, she is survived by her seven siblings: Miriam (Carl) Moore of Springdale, AR; Michael Duell of Lillian, AL; Elisabeth (Rolando) Branly of Venice, FL; LeRoy (Kim) of Springdale, AR; Paul (Jane) Duell of St. Louis, MO; Charles (Diana) of Fayetteville, AR; and James (Genny) Duell Montel, of Beit Shemesh, Israel. Finally, Josephine is survived by several of nieces, nephews, and a multitude of cousins.
