MaryJane Moffett was born in 1936 to Vincent A. Sheehy and Naomi E. Connick and was raised in Washington, DC, with her three older siblings. She attended Dunblane School and graduated from the Academy of the Holy Cross.
In 1955, MaryJane married Thomas R. Moffett. Together they raised five children: LynnAnne McDonald, Thomas R. Moffett, Jr., John C. Moffett, Sandra J. Ritzert, and Natalie Moffett Smith. Their marriage later ended in divorce.
MaryJane was an avid reader, an accomplished painter, an adventurous traveler, and a woman with a strong independent spirit. She had a deep curiosity about the world and a determination to experience as much of it as she could. She solo-captained a 37-foot cabin cruiser from Solomons Island, Maryland, to the Florida Keys, and explored the inland waterways. She also traveled extensively by car, discovering the continental United States on her own.
Her love of reading, painting, and travel reflected a life lived with curiosity, courage, and independence. She created her own adventures and, in doing so, made a life that was distinctly her own with family remaining an important part of it.
MaryJane is survived by her five children, eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was lovingly known as Grandmama. She will be forever loved and deeply missed.
