Neil J. George Jr. passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Neil Jr. loved his family: devoted partner Brooke Baumann, parents Neil J. George Sr. and Theodosia A. George (deceased), sisters Anne (Jason and Theo) and Mary Ellen, brother Tom (Sara) and his extended family. Neil also loved dogs, especially dachshunds including his late Hildegard and his very spoiled Blue.
Neil took great pride in education. He attended Kings College on a debate scholarship, where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics. He then earned his MBA in finance from Webster University. Neil enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an international banker, taught college courses in the U.S. and abroad, and served as a financial editor-in-chief of multiple international financial publications wherein he received multiple editorial excellence awards.
Neil had many passions. He loved golf and playing with his dad and brother on their many golf trips. He was an exceptional cook. He thoroughly enjoyed fine dining and fine French wine. Neil was very sociable. He enjoyed spending time at his member clubs and chatting up his friends and neighbors. Neil loved to travel, whether near or abroad. He had an affinity for beaches that enhanced his year-long tan. He loved cars; driving, owning, reading about, discussing, and car spotting. Neil loved his clothes. He was a clothes horse known for his round glasses, bow ties, pocket squares, and British tweed and wool jackets.
While his piercing blue eyes were often commented upon by others, Neil boasted about his knees. Prior to his long-fought battle with cancer, Neil used those knees and refined physique to run throughout Old Town Alexandria, stopping to say a prayer in the Basilica of Saint Mary and to say 'hi' to a doggy or two.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 2:30 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; 7148 Forsyth Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63105.
Neil will be remembered fondly by those he loved and those who knew and loved him.
Nostrovia and Godspeed.
