Rita M. Adams, a beloved 90-year-old resident of Springfield, Virginia, peacefully passed away on December 21, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on February 15, 1935, in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, she was the cherished daughter of William and Stasia Kuchinski. Rita was the loving wife of Francis Adams, Jr., and the proud mother of Elizabeth Foster (William), Francis Adams III (Lisa), and William Adams (Karen). She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Will, Daniel, Richard, Robbie, Emily, Christopher, Katie, and David.
Rita’s educational journey began at Dickson City High School, where she graduated in 1952. She then pursued a nursing degree at Scranton State Hospital. Her passion for travel led her to work briefly at a Veteran’s Administration hospital in Manhattan, New York. This experience ignited her desire to join the Air Force, and in August 1956, she embarked on her service.
Rita served as a flight nurse, with her first assignment in Japan. During her time there, she met the love of her life, Frank Adams, who was also an Air Force officer. Their love blossomed, and they married in Japan in February 1960. Frank continued his career as an Air Force officer, while Rita transitioned from an Air Force Captain into the role as an Air Force spouse and devoted mother.
Rita, the pillar of her family, raised three children while relocating the family eleven times within the United States and abroad. In 1977, the family finally settled in Fairfax, Virginia, where they lived for over 36 years before moving to Greensprings Senior Living, Springfield, VA. Rita was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren. One of her greatest joy was the participation in their activities, from caring for them during the summer months to accompanying them to sporting and school events.
Rita, a talented baker, shared her delectable treats with friends and family throughout her life. Christmas was always a special time, marked by the tradition of making homemade pierogies and passing down her cherished recipe to her children.
Throughout her years, Rita’s unwavering commitment to helping others continued. After retiring as a nurse, her call to help those in need remained steadfast. Family, friends, and even strangers benefited from her dedication to spreading love and compassion.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on January 29, 2026, at 11:30 am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Springfield, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
