Stephen William McCarthy

Stephen William McCarthy age 73 of Haymarket, VA passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 3, 2022. Stephen was born on August 18, 1949 in Somerville, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late William and Rita McCarthy. Also preceding him in death brothers William “Billy” McCarthy, and Kevin McCarthy.

Stephen graduated from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA and attended George Mason University. He served 6 years in the National Guard. He was also a well known custom home builder in the Northern Virginia area and president of McCarthy Enterprises, Inc.

Soon after moving into the Regency at Dominion Valley, he became actively involved in the Home Owners Association. He initially served on the committee level and subsequently was elected to the Board of Directors where he served as President for the past several years.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. McCarthy, to whom he married on April 26, 1982; his son, Stephen William McCarthy II, his daughter, Tonya A. Smith, VA, his grandson, Christopher R. Snuffer, VA, and his great grandson, Braylon R. Snuffer and has 11 grandchildren living abroad.

Also surviving is his sister Janet Jones (Jerry) Haymarket, VA and brother Daniel McCarthy (Tracy) of Fairfax Station, VA and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church 4090 Sudley Road, Haymarket VA on December 17, 2022 at 11am; there will be a reception afterwards at the Regency at Dominion Valley Clubhouse.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Steve’s memory may be made to the Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at the University of Virginia.
