My late husband worked for Mullard in London, a Philips company, and was obsessed with the Saturn and Apollo missions. In 1971, he decided to attend a launch, but did not know how to go about it. He spoke to colleagues in London, who told him to speak to, or mention, the magic name Arnold Frutkin. We had no idea who this person was, but my husband flew to America clutching his name. We could not afford to buy 2 tickets, so I stayed behind. Arriving, he quoted the name and as if by magic, he was whisked on to a coach and given a place on the stand nearest to the launch. That experience stayed a defining moment all his life. He was suffering from total alopecia and had had a really hard time, but from that moment, the name of Arnold Frutkin was revered in our little English apartment. I have only just found his biography and had no idea he was in such a high position. My husband died of leukaemia several years ago but he gave thanks for Arnold Frutkin for the rest of his life from that day in the 1970s.

Frutkin played key role in the in starting the Indian space programme. He also helped India in many ways especially in conducting the famous Satellite Instruction Television Experiment which was hailed as the greatest communication experiment by Arthur Clarke.
Please convey my sincere condolences to his bereaved family.

Arnold Frutkin was a great supporter of the Indian Space Programme. It is sad to know that he is no more. May his soul rest in peace.
