Our beloved Bruce Carlton McComb, age 69, of Huddleston, Virginia passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021 after a long and valiant battle with kidney disease. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Maria "Mimi"; his children Justin (Nikki) and Shelby (John); his grandsons Dylan, Tyler, Logan, Lucas and Silas; his brother J.C. (Joyce) and his sister Sharon; and an abundance of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Armstrong and his father Jack McComb.
Born on October 16, 1952, Bruce was raised in Richmond , Virginia and graduated from Huguenot High School. After high school, Bruce attended Ferrum College and upon graduation, he returned to the Richmond area where he attended The University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business and later met the love of his life. Bruce married Mimi on March 4, 1978 and together they raised their family. Bruce was a loving and supportive husband and father who could be found along the sidelines or in the bleachers cheering for his children and later his grandchildren as they played soccer.
Bruce was gregarious and friendly and he never knew a stranger. His larger-than-life personality served him well throughout his prolific career in the car business, first at Hyman Brothers in Richmond and later at Bareford Buick in Tappahannock where he and Mimi made a home for many years and opened the iconic Java Jacks Coffee Shop. Bruce spent his retirement years surrounded by the beauty and serenity of Smith Mountain Lake with his bride, Mimi, by his side.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 11am at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Tappahannock, VA, with interment to immediately follow at the Church Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to The National Kidney Foundation or United Network for Organ Sharing in Bruce's honor.
