Burnet “Burnie” Vance Davis passed away on April 15, 2026, at the age of 83, and will be remembered for his quiet strength, deep kindness, and unwavering service to others. Family, friends, and community were central to his life and brought him great joy and purpose. He is lovingly remembered by his wife and partner in life, Sandra “Sandy” Brooks, along with his children, stepchildren, and a large extended family. A devoted member of Unitarian Universal Congregation of Charlottesville for over two decades, Burnie embodied the spirit of Unitarian Universalism in both word and action.
Known for his thoughtful nature, sharp intellect, and warm, playful sense of humor, he brought joy to everyday interactions—often in the form of his signature emoji-filled messages. His commitment to community was far reaching: as a political science professor, mentor, public servant, and volunteer, he dedicated countless hours to supporting others, from maintaining the Appalachian Trail to engaging in local civic activities, including service as a County Commissioner, voting initiatives, and assisting with free tax preparation services, all of which uplifted and supported those in need.
Whether working behind the scenes, tending our church grounds, or helping neighbors in need, Burnie showed up with humility and care, never seeking recognition. His life stands as a powerful example of how quiet dedication and compassion can shape a community, offering an enduring inspiration to others to serve, give, and live with purpose.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Cremation Society of Virginia. No service will be held.
