David William Ripley

David William Ripley, age 78, of Charlottesville, Virginia, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024. Dave was the beloved husband of Marcia (Lehman) Ripley, to whom he had been married for 35 years. He was the loving father to Will and Kyle Ripley; father-in-law to Will’s wife, Becky Ripley; grandfather to Will and Becky’s baby due in July; and brother-in-law to Robert Lehman, Jr.(Dottie). He was also the son of the late Arthur and Hilda Ripley; the trusted brother of the late Phillip Ripley (Patricia); and uncle to nephews, Erik and Paul Ripley(Erin and Sarah, respectively).

Dave was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on September 6, 1945, and attended Muskegon Heights High School before going on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. After college, Dave enlisted in the Army, and was deployed to South Korea. He enrolled in Officer Training School where he rose to the position of First Lieutenant. He was honorably discharged and continued his education at the University of Illinois-Champagne-Urbana, where he received a master’s degree in Labor and Employee Relations. After a stretch in Chapel Hill, NC, Dave moved to Charlottesville, where he would meet his future wife and start a family.

Dave enjoyed a lengthy career with the University of Virginia, Department of Human Resources, where he was Compensation Director. Dave’s greatest joy in life was with his family. He enjoyed going to his sons’ sporting events and practices; attending UVA sporting events; and playing with the family dogs, Peaches, and Danny.
