Bettie Mobley Church of Richmond passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 27, 2026. Mrs. Church was born on July 14, 1937 in Danville, Va. She was the daughter of Frank W. Mobley, Sr. and Ruby Mobley. The loving wife of Francis Church for 54 years, she is survived by her daughters, Linda Jackson and Lili Boyd of Richmond; and son, Tom Church of Philadelphia, Pa. and their spouses. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Thomas and Spencer Jackson; Helen, Grayson, and Vivian Boyd; and Maddie, Simon, and Sara Church. Bettie graduated from Wake Forest College in 1959, where she was the only woman on the staff of the Old Gold and Black student-run newspaper. She met her future husband while working as an intern at the Winston-Salem Journal and taught high school English until they married. Her greatest joy was raising her children and grandchildren, who always enjoyed the special menu items she prepared. She had many dear friends through neighborhood clubs, including garden club, bridge club, and book club. A fifty-year member of Bon Air Presbyterian Church, Bettie enjoyed arranging flowers and greenery, making desserts for Wednesday night dinners, preparing the Church Outreach newsletter, and serving communion. She loved to travel with Francis, travelling extensively throughout Europe and Asia. A memorial service and reception will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13 at Bon Air Presbyterian Church, 9201 W. Huguenot Rd. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the Memorial Fund at Bon Air Presbyterian Church.
