Charles Alexious Bender

Charles (Chuck) Bender, 81, died peacefully at home on March 17, 2025. He was born and raised in St. Louis, MO, by the late Charles and Helen Bender. After obtaining his Master's in Criminology from Sam Houston State University, he worked and retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons and then joined the Social Work faculty of Virginia State University. He was an accomplished woodworker, had a keen eye for yard sale treasures, and offered a helping hand to anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy Bender. He was a cherished father to Mark (Suzanne), Adam (Anna), and his late daughter, Rachel (Kyle). Loving grandfather to Reagan, Ella, Charlie, Aiden, and Noah. He is survived by siblings Sister Mary [SSND], Bob, and Rick.

The family will receive friends at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Drive, North Chesterfield, on April 11, at 12 pm, with a Mass of the Resurrection to follow at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the ALS Association or St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church Human Concerns Fund.
