

Charlotte is survived by one son, Thomas Cobb Speight (Rocio) of AZ; a daughter, Mary Charlotte Speight Mutter of Chester VA; three grandsons, Christopher P. Speight (Kim), Michael Raymond Speight (Christine) and Thomas Cobb Speight Jr; 4 great-grandchildren, Matt, Emily, Tessa Rose, and Hon Michael; and brother, Dr. Jack Parmer Evans. She was predeceased by her parent;, her husband, Horace Otis Copley; and her brother, Dr. Hugh Raymond Evans, Jr.
Charlotte was an educator, having received a BS and MA in mathematics from the University of Alabama and a Doctorate in Administration and Supervision from the College of William and Mary. She taught mathematics in high school and college in Alabama, Colorado, and Massachusetts, ending in Virginia. For the last 20 years of her career she was Supervisor of Mathematics with Hampton City Schools. She was a past member of the Board of Directors of the National Council Teachers of Mathematics. She was previously Treasurer of Comte de Grasse Chapter NSDAR and of the Williamsburg Chapter of UDC. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and served on several alumni committees at William and Mary.
Otis and Charlotte moved to WindsorMeade in 2008. She served two terms on the Residents’ Council being Treasurer and later Vice President. She was Co-chair of the Wellness Committee for 4 years.
Charlotte was an active member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church and a former member of the Church Council and President of the Williamsburg United Women. She was a Stephen Minister, member of CARE Committee and enjoyed visiting shut-ins.
A memorial service will be conducted at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185 on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 10 a.m. with an outdoor reception to follow. Masks are required in the sanctuary and ones will be provided if needed. A record of the service will be placed on the church website at williamsburgumc.org/worship/funeral. Burial will follow at a later date in Montgomery, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Williamsburg United Methodist Church with a note in the lower line to say UMW- Charlotte Copley.
