Dennis was born in Milwaukee in 1947 and was the son of James and June Wright. He grew up with his brothers, Skip, Tom, David, and his sister, Susan.
He was a licensed clinical social worker and worked for Region Ten in Charlottesville. Before that, he lived in Richmond and worked with adults with Down Syndrome and later with clients who had mental illness and/or addiction in Hanover County. He was always compassionate towards his clients and wanted to make their lives easier. It wasn’t always easy (he got punched once) but he did not give up on them. He cared about people.
His main vocation though was the arts and music. He had a house full of poetry and songs yet to be finished. He wrote constantly and participated in groups all around Central Virginia that played music, discussed writing, and read poetry. He is missed by many people in those communities like Rapunzel’s Coffeehouse and the Bridge.
He also enjoyed baseball and it was a happy trip for him to go to Cooperstown, NY to see the Baseball Hall of Fame. He went to games in Milwaukee, Washington, and Baltimore, Boston, and other cities as well.
His marriage to Lori Gwin ended in divorce but they remained friends. Besides his brothers, Skip, Tom, David and his sister, Susan Dulde, he is survived by many nieces and nephews. And, by many, many friends who will miss him.
A celebration of his life is planned for the future as well. Please feel free to share your memories of Dennis for his family and friends.
