Donald Lee Elam, age 73, passed away on September 25, 2026. Born June 23, 1953, Donald lived in Richmond, Virginia. A painter by trade, he was employed at Street and Branch, known for the steady pride he took in honest work and the care he brought to what he did each day.
Donald’s life reflected quiet courage and an adventurous spirit—qualities seen not in grand gestures, but in the way he met life as it came, with resolve, curiosity, and a willingness to help. He enjoyed music, cars, dumpster diving, and motorcycles, interests that spoke to both his independent streak and his thoughtful way of finding value and meaning in the world around him. Above all, he carried himself with a selfless heart, offering his time and presence to those he loved.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond L. and Lottie S. Elam; and his sisters, Barbara Byers, Nancy Sellers, and Jean Betts.
He is survived by his children, John K., Stacie D., and Donna R. Elam; his grandchildren, Kevin A. and Gabriel A. Brady, Gavin M. and Addison C. Nelms, and Dylan R. Mahon; his great grandchild, Arlo A. Brady; and his life long partner of 32 years, Pam Mathery, and her son Jessie, who was like a second son to him.
Donald will be remembered with respect and gratitude—for his hard work, his bravery, his thoughtful nature, and the steady, generous love he gave to his family and those fortunate enough to know him.
