He is survived by his loving wife, of 69 years and 7 months, Marie (Madera), and their children:Merle (Molly), Keith (Teresa), Sheri (Dan), Randy (Tammy) and Karen (Al). He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. His siblings: Rev. Bill, Byron, Albert, Richard, Rodney, Patty, Ada, June, and Edna. As well as many, many nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Ben and Margaret Mullins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Cleon (Sonny), Jim, and Margaret (Peg).
Merlin was an employee of the North American Brick Yard for 42 years, a 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus, a member of Knepp’s Hunting Camp, and he was a faithful member of St Bonaventure's Church in Grampian.
One of his many joys was coaching little league for his sons and many of the local boys, and watching his children and grandchildren play in their many sports and other activities. As well as teaching his children to hunt.
He loved to sing and play his guitar. He and some of his friends would get together and play music, he participated in community events and played his guitar at church. He passed his love of music on to many of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He always had a smile for anyone passing by or stopping in for a visit, and he loved to cook for them. He would always lend a helpful hand to anyone in need.
To his wife, Marie, who was by his side every day, we are so thankful that throughout his dementia diagnosis that he always recognized her; his face would light up whenever she walked into the room, and he would hold Marie’s hand. He would sing to Marie “If There Are Sweethearts In Heaven”. Some of the legacy's he left behind; true love, a strong faith, loyalty, and dedication.
A Memorial Mass for Merlin will be held at St Bonaventure’s Church on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00pm. Due to medical issues, Marie (and Sheri) will not be able to attend the Memorial Mass but send their love and appreciation to those who attend. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome at Knepp’s Camp or St Bonaventure’s Church.
A service in Richmond, VA will be held at a later date. Please check back for updates.
