Irene Baum Hawker

Born in Danville Va. August 17, 1940. She passed away peacefully at home before her soul entered heaven on June 23, 2025. She is survived by her husband , Leon W. Hawker, Sr of 64 years. She is also survived by her 3 children; Susan Hester ( Michael), Leon, Jr (Beth) and Anne Frost Kennedy (Geoffrey) and 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

She was a cheerleader and on the Homecoming Court at George Washington High School.

Irene spent 2 years at Mary Washington College before marriage. She accepted Christ at an early age and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church, Danville and later at Cottage Hill Baptist Church in Mobile.

She was gifted with her hands through knitting, embroidery and many needlepoint projects. Her work decorates many of her children’s homes as a reminder of her love for her family.

There will be a celebration of life on July 12 at 1:00pm at Bon Air Baptist Church 2531 Buford Road Richmond Va 23235

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association of Richmond in memory of Irene.
