Born in Ohio to Jerome and Ikuko Olson, he spent his school years in various locations as part of a military family and was fortunate to have attended high school in Japan, graduating from Zama High School – a place and time that remained close to his heart. He was proud to be a Nittany Lion, and earned a Bachelor’s in Business Logistics from Penn State University and later attained a Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems. He settled in the Virginia Beach area to raise his family, and his career as a systems analyst spanned many years. Jimmy was engaged in sports from a young age and he remained very active throughout his life, enjoying regular lengthy bicycle rides down by the beach. He was able to combine his love of sports with his love for his sons when given the opportunity to coach their teams. Jimmy’s final years were marked by a difficult decline, but prior to this he was an active and engaged member of his church, offering his time through volunteer work at the church and in the community.
James is preceded in death by his father, Jerome Olson. He is survived by his mother, Ikuko Olson; sons, Connor Olson and Ryan Olson (Anna); sister, Patricia O. Thomas (Kenny) and nieces, Romi and Cassidy; Aunt Carol, Uncle Gary, numerous cousins, extended family members, and caregivers, as well as others who also loved him along the way and will mourn his loss while being thankful for his peace.
Jimmy’s ashes will be returned to the earth by his family. Please remember him by extending kindness to others.
