Jerry Rogers Moody, 91, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on May 10, 2026. Jerry is survived by his wife and soulmate of 61 years Donna Pritchett Moody; son Christopher Rogers Moody (Janie Burch Moody deceased) and their sons Donald Rogers Moody and Eric Christopher Moody; and son David Bryan Moody (Elizabeth Sauer) and their children Jackson Armstrong Moody and Catherine Tremaine Moody.
Jerry was born to Julia Rogers Moody and Ernest V. Moody on July 26, 1934 in Dillon, SC. After Jerry’s Mother passed, he was raised on the family farm by his Aunt Genevieve and Uncle Alphus Rogers. His cherished memories always returned to his boyhood days spent on the farm along the Little Pee Dee River and Buck Swamp.
He proudly attended Clemson College (military school at the time) graduating with a BS degree in Agricultural Engineering. After graduation, he worked in the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, D.C. The U.S. Air Force called shortly after. Jerry served during the Cold War as an Air Defense Controller in Japan and in 1958 he was assigned as an Intercept Director to the Washington Air Defense Sector at Fort Lee, VA. After his military service, he joined the Systems Development Corporation as a programmer for the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) System. Jerry worked in the very early years of computers and loved it. His last Civil Service position at Fort Lee was with the Army Logistics Management Center, retiring in 1993. Jerry enjoyed his years working at Fort Lee and made friends that lasted his lifetime.
After retirement, Jerry served Wesley United Methodist Church as Assistant Treasurer and as the bus driver for several church groups. He had a warm and caring heart and was always ready to assist friends by taking them to doctor visits or running errands for them. As a member of the Crater Antique Auto Club, he enjoyed showing his pride and joy, the farm truck he drove in high school, his bright blue 1951 Chevy pickup.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 29 with visitation at 2:00 p.m. followed by the service at 3:00 p.m. Wesley United Methodist Church is located at 3701 Conduit Road, Colonial Heights.
In lieu of flowers or food, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Jerry’s honor to Wesley United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
