John S. 'Jay' Washburn

WASHBURN, John S. 'Jay', 82, of Ashland, VA passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Erby Washburn; sister, Ann Washburn Ford; and nephew, Casey Washburn.

He is survived by his brother, Ken Washburn (Kerry) of Swampscott, Mass.; niece, Mariah Spooner of Attleboro, Mass.; nephew, Pete Capuano on Lincoln, Neb.; niece, Melissa Leone of Swampscott, Mass.; and six Perry cousins; and many Ashland area friends.

Jay loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. His friends at the shooting range called him an excellent marksman. A skilled craftsman and finish carpenter, he spent his career in construction and the homebuilding business.

Jay was a proud veteran serving four years in the Air Force

during the Vietnam era that included two years 9n Thailand.
