Joseph Welton, Sr., 70, of Virginia, peacefully transitioned on March 20, 2026, at Southside Community Hospital. He was born on January 24, 1956, in Prince Edward County, Virginia, to the late William Welton and Maude Ford-Welton.
Joseph received his education through Prince Edward County Public Schools and went on to build a dedicated career as an Auto Glass Technician. Known for his strong work ethic and skilled hands, he took pride in his craft and the relationships he built along the way.
He was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Joseph loved playing the guitar, listening to live music, and sharing musical moments with his family. He also enjoyed fishing and spending quiet time outdoors. His love for music was not only something he enjoyed but something he shared, passing it down to his children in meaningful and lasting ways. His presence was warm, his spirit genuine, and he brought comfort and laughter to those who knew him.
Joseph leaves to cherish his memory his loving children: Kimberly Hartwell (Vashion) of Buckingham County, VA; Torrie Patterson (Donny) of Prince Edward County, VA; Joseph Welton, Jr. (Wyaneka) of Appomattox, VA; and Jordan Welton (Jasmine) of Chesterfield, VA. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Kiman Hartwell, Kamerin Welton, Nicholas Hartwell (Te’Aya), Iyonna Welton, Mya Patterson, and Daniel Welton; and great-grandchildren: Kalen, Kaleigh, Ayden, and Kaleb.
He is also survived by his siblings: William Welton, Beatrice Medley, Mary Hobson, Issac Welton, Barbara Harris, and Lester Welton; along with a special cousin, Peggy Owens, and a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss him.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Welton.
Joseph Welton, Sr. will be remembered for the way he showed up for his family, the skills he carried throughout his life, and the simple moments he valued most—whether through music, conversation, or time spent together. The lessons he shared, the traditions he passed down, and the memories he helped create will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Apostolic Faith Church of All Nations, Farmville, VA.
