She was the youngest of 7 children born to Floy and Everett Osmon, at home on their farm in Plainville, Indiana, on June 25, 1925.
Leah is survived by her 3 children, Jane Hornbeck, Anne Walker (Dennis), and Bill Graham (Kathy); 6 grandchildren: Katie Breckinridge (Warren Parker) , David Hornbeck (Kristen), Elizabeth Houston (Rick), Kevin Walker (Jen), Billy Graham, and Matt Graham; and 5 great grandchildren: Mae and Grace Walker, Carson and Ellie Houston, and Everly Hornbeck. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lt. Fred Graham, and Jane’s husband, Elliott Hornbeck.
Leah was raised in a hardworking family and instilled that work ethic in her own family. She was 16 when she graduated from high school. She worked as a bookkeeper and at Indiana Bell Telephone until she met Fred while he was stationed at the George Field Advanced Flying Base. They were married on December 20, 1945, and he swept her away to his home in Washington, DC. They worked at the Main Navy Headquarters and started a family. When Fred was transferred to Richmond, Leah worked at the Baptist Foreign Mission Board where she later retired after 23 years.
Leah knew how to have fun. She played the organ and piano, sewed, cooked, and participated in many adventurous activities. Although she never learned to swim, she enjoyed being the co-captain of the "Bianjale”, sailing around the Chesapeake Bay with Captain Fred. Later they traveled around the United States in their RV, and eventually moved to Sarasota, Florida, where they grew oranges on their fruit trees in their yard. Leah was known for her lucky streak, taking home many winnings from bingo and Mexican Train games. Her big win came at age 90 she won a car.
The family would like to thank Cedarfield Health Center and At Home Hospice for the compassionate care they provided during the final days of Leah’s life. There will be a graveside gathering for the family at a later date.
