Ms. Leona Maria Stepanian, 84, of Richmond, VA journeyed into God's embrace on June 5, 2026. Born February 5, 1942, Leona will be remembered with deep respect and lasting affection by all who knew her.
Leona’s life was marked by steady devotion—to her family, to her friends, and to the everyday joys that made life feel full. An avid lover of music, dance and movies, she carried a lively spirit that showed itself in simple pleasures: the companionship of others, the care of yellow labs, days at the beach, time in the garden, a good book... and, always, a Coca-Cola close at hand. Her curiosity and warmth drew her into community through book clubs, supper clubs, and faithful volunteering at her grandsons' schools, local libraries and YMCAs, where her presence was dependable and uplifting.
Above all, Leona was a devoted mother and grandmother and a faithful friend—someone whose care was expressed in special thoughtfulness, boundless generosity, and an adventurous spirit that made others feel encouraged and welcomed. Her love and steadiness will be deeply missed and enduringly honored.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Celia Balducci Stepanian; and father, Leon King Stepanian, Sr.
She is survived by her daughters, Mischa Geracoulis (Timmy) and Maria Gueriera (Danny); grandchildren, Niccolò Levon Gueriera and Vincenzo Fedele Gueriera; and brother, Leon King Stepanian, Jr. (Linda); and a multitude of beloved cousins and friends.
Extra-special thanks goes to her phenomenal teams of caregivers and service providers at The Barclay at Tuckahoe and Hospice of Virginia.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1400 S. Randolph St, RVA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Museum of America, 65 Main St. Watertown, MA 02472.
