On July 9, 2023, Michael R. Simms “Mick” left his temporary home here on earth to go to his forever heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior, and his dad, Ronald L. Simms “Homer”, who passed away in October 2017, and his brother, Richard L. Simms “Fat Boy”, who passed away on May 1, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Francis and Elsie Quate, Mary and L.M. Brooks. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Linda Q. Simms “Martha”; aunties, Marlene Q. Wheelhouse “Toby”, Beverley Q. Spivey “Wednesday”, Trudy Q. Samuels, Brenda Todd “Tom”, Jo Ellen Wheelhouse; special cousin, Jody W. Reed “Lisa”, husband Shawn, and daughter, Erin Kate. Also, Uncle Bubba Wheelhouse; nieces, Amber Whiteside “Guppy” and husband Lukas, and Kali Por; lots of special cousins in Canada and North Carolina. He also left behind his extra parents in North Carolina, Terri and Kevin Todd, little sister, Katie; his long faithful friend, Tony Stell “Plunger Boy” and special friend, Lynn Bird.
Mick loved Deanna Smith “Spittin’ Sammy” and drag racing. They spent many days together at the race track smelling racing fuel and rubber.
Mick, who had his own special name for almost everyone he knew well (all names in quotations above), borrowed mostly from either The Simpsons or the Addams Family, will be so very missed by all who knew him.
Mick’s life can be described as a challenge since the age of three. But he never gave up, facing each one with God’s help, the help of friends, and the devotion of loving parents and family members, especially his brother, Rick.
The family would like to thank Crater Road Hospice and staff for their help in making Mick’s final days the best that they could be.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
