Our beloved Rebecca Whittle, left us way too soon, departed this life to be with her Savior Jesus Christ, on May 19, 2024. Rebecca, born on October 15, 1945 in South Hill, VA, was the eleventh of thirteen children and the youngest of the five girls. Her parents, Anderson and Elizabeth Brown Thorne instilled in the children the value of hard work. In addition to her parents and siblings, Rebecca was preceded in death by one of her sons, Roosevelt Whittle.
Rebecca was a woman that lived a remarkable life, filled with laughter, hard work, a strong devotion to her Savior Jesus Christ, and her amazing family. Rebecca leaves many cherished memories to her son’s James E. Whittle and Antoine C. Whittle; four granddaughters, Tracy Dyson, Ebony Dyson, Keaira Hudson, and Tamia Whittle; six grandsons, Quadry Pressey, Antoine D. Whittle, “Ace” Whittle, Taylor Whittle, Tyler Whittle, and Tisun Whittle; Five great granddaughters and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Rebecca worked as a Medical assistant for over 30 years, upon retiring she became a “lunch lady” for Henrico County. She enjoyed having conversations with the students, loved to pour into others, and would often listen to their stories and pray for the children. Rebecca was a very active person. She was an avid runner, even late into her life, enjoyed playing softball, and was always quick to volunteer at church and do anything asked of her. Rebecca even volunteered to work with the Jr. High ministry where she could mentor and minister to the young teens. Rebecca loved singing and was a welcomed part of BOMI’s worship team. Rebecca will always be remembered by her infectious smile, hearty laugh and warm heart.
