

Richard Leonard Hale, 94, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away on April 16, 2026. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Cora and Thelma. Richard was survived by his wife, Dolores Hale, until her passing on April 23, 2026. He leaves behind his children, Rick, Kevin, and Debra; grandchildren, Trevor, Shea (Korie), Corbyn (Matthew), and Jenny; granddaughter, Serafina; and brother, David (Mary Ann).
Richard (Dick) was born in Fayetteville, New York and was raised in Johnson City, NY. He joined the United States Navy where he served during the Korean War. Richard’s Navy career led him to duty stations in Paris, France and Kenitra, Morocco, before his final service in Norfolk, Virginia at the Commander in Chief Atlantic, Fleet Intelligence Center. He was awarded several medals throughout his Navy career, including the Korean Service Medal, United National Defense Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Richard retired from the Navy in 1969, then worked for the Newport News Shipbuilding Dry-Dock Company as an engineer on the Los Angeles Fast-Attack Class of submarines. Richard later shifted to insurance and retirement planning as a salesman, consultant and mentor with Virginia Asset Management until he fully retired.
Dick and his wife Dolores eventually settled in Midlothian, Virginia. He was an active Fleet Reserve Association member since 1964. Dick and Dolores were members of the Virginia Power Boat Association for over 40 years, where he served as Commodore and in several other service positions through the years. Together they enjoyed many boating excursions on the Chesapeake Bay with VPBA members. He was a member of Cartersville Baptist Church in Cartersville, Virginia.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, May 30th, 2026, at Cartersville Baptist Church, 25 High St., Cartersville, VA 23027.
Interment on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 3 PM, Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Rd., Amelia, VA 23002.
