Born in East Providence, Rhode Island, on August 6, 1936, Robert—known to many as Bob—developed a fascination with aviation at an early age. He joined the Civil Air Patrol as a young man and graduated from East Providence High School in 1954. He later served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, working on B-52 bombers while stationed in Guam.
In June 1956, Robert married Patricia A. Loomis. Together, they returned to South Dakota, where he completed his Air Force service. Robert and Patricia raised three sons: Robert Jr., Scott, and Steven.
Following his military service, Bob joined Pan American Airways in Jamaica, Queens, New York. His career continued with Pan Am Business Jets, working with Falcon aircraft manufactured by Avions Marcel Dassault. He trained in France on the Mystère Falcon 20 and later the Falcon 10, developing the technical knowledge that would become the foundation of his distinguished career.
Beginning in 1968, Bob served Falcon Jet in several capacities, first as a Technical Field Representative and later as Assistant Manager of Field Service, helping customers keep their aircraft flying. His combination of technical expertise and dedication to customers led to his involvement in planning and opening Falcon’s new maintenance center. He also established its Quality Control Department and served as Manager of Maintenance Sales before moving into inside sales in 1974.
In 1977, Bob established Falcon Jet’s Pre-Owned Aircraft Department with Al Conklin. The two worked together until they each moved on to new ventures. In July 1984, Bob founded Peregrine Aviation Services, specializing in the sale of pre-owned corporate aircraft, particularly Falcons. Known as “the Falcon Specialist,” he earned a worldwide reputation for fairness, integrity, and expertise. His son Scott joined him in 1987, followed by Steven in 1988. Together, they built a family business that thrived for more than 30 years.
Beyond aviation, Bob pursued successful real estate ventures and was affectionately known as “Mr. Fix-It” for his ability to repair just about anything. He also had a passion for cooking and enjoyed life in Virginia and Summerland Key, Florida.
On September 8, 2007, Bob married Donna East. They shared a love of animals. Bob’s devotion to raising and training German Shepherds spanned decades, beginning with Bala in 1963 and continuing with Oden, Sagwu, Rosie, and Argos. Their Australian Shepherd, Tootsie, was also a beloved companion. Bob trained and registered dogs for therapy work and frequently volunteered with them at hospitals, schools, and care facilities, bringing comfort and companionship to those they visited.
Robert and Donna were members of the Italian American Cultural Association of Virginia where they developed many lasting friendships. Travel for the two of them included France, Italy, England, Tahiti, Hawaii and the Caribbean. They also enjoyed their time together at his house in Key West.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his three sons, Robert J. Dandeneau Jr., Scott M. Dandeneau, and Steven D. Dandeneau and his wife, Ann Marie; his stepdaughter, Amy East Crawford, and her husband, Troy; his sisters, Carol Dandeneau Vincent and her husband, Robert, and Jean Dandeneau Kirouac; his nine grandchildren, Charlie, Janelle, Ariane, Giovanna, Mitchell, Ava, Michelle, Josh, and Abigail; and his five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Donald Kirouac and Amandine Dandeneau.
Bob leaves a legacy of dedication to his family, lasting contributions to aviation, and relationships built on trust. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and colleagues around the world.
