Ron was born on November 8, 1954, to Larry Gene Hill and June Ellen Dodd. From an early age, he was known for his strong work ethic and love of sports. As a young boy, he pitched for his Little League baseball team, played football, and was active in the Boys Club. At just 15 years old, while still attending high school, he began working at a local gas station pumping gas. After graduating, he joined Holly Acres Camper Sales, where his dedication and leadership earned him a management position. He devoted 30 years to the company before pursuing his dream of owning his own business, selling wholesale truck and 4x4 accessories.
On November 15, 1973, Ron married the love of his life, Catherine “Edye” Hill. For 52 wonderful years, they built a life filled with love, faith, laughter, and family. Together, they raised two children, Virginia Leigh Hill and Ronald Justin Hill.
Family was the center of Ron’s world. He especially cherished being “Baba” to his seven grandchildren. He created countless memories with them and shared life lessons that will remain in their hearts forever. He was blessed even further with two great-grandchildren who brought him immeasurable joy.
Ron loved making memories with those he cared about. Whether he was traveling, camping, fishing, playing bingo, poker, or throwing horseshoes, he was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. An avid horseshoe competitor, he entered and won many tournaments throughout the years. One of his favorite traditions was taking his children—and often all of their friends—to Outdoor World for weekend camping trips. He was also a devoted fan of the Washington Commanders and the Washington Nationals and rarely missed the opportunity to cheer them on.
Known by many names—Ronnie, Ron, Hilly, Puffy, and Chunk-Munk—his favorite titles were Dad and Baba. Ron never met a stranger. He had an infectious laugh, a smile that could light up any room, and a mischievous sense of humor that kept everyone around him laughing. He loved listening to music, enjoying family crab feasts, and never turned down an ice-cold Coca-Cola.
Ron was a hardworking, dedicated family man who wore his heart on his sleeve. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, whether they were family, friends, or someone he had just met. His faith in the Lord guided his life, and he was a faithful member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Beaverdam, Virginia.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Catherine “Edye” Hill; his children, Virginia “Gindy” Casey (Lee) and Ronald Justin Hill (Tara); his mother, June Burke; his siblings, Pat Hill, Lynne Nichols, Michele Outlaw, and Stuart Hill; his brothers-in-law, William “Billy” Metz (Sheri Robinson), Kyle Metz (Karen), and Dave “Nick” Nichols; his seven grandchildren, Alexis, Ty, Noah, Elijah, Landon, Lincoln, and Presley; his two great-grandchildren, Malakai and Cian; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Gene Hill, and his stepfather, William “Bill” Burke.
The Hill family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out with prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a source of strength and comfort.
Though our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing Ron is healed, whole, and home with his Lord and Savior. His love, laughter, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Catherine “Edye” Hill to help with Ron’s medical bills and other final expenses.
