My condolences to Steve's family!
Steve & I had been friends since he played drums in my first (exclusively original song) trio, "ThreeSpeed", back in 1979, along with also deceased bass player Evan Evans!
He (& Evan) were & still are an important influence in the evolution of my ongoing original song repertoire that I still practice & record to this day!
I will miss his kinship!

Cathy and family, I am Ellen Thacker Satchell, the sister of Sandy Thacker. I will always remember Steve for being such a loyal friend  and role model to my brother. Sandy shared the dear loss of Steve with me. I wanted to express my sympathy for the loss of Steve who meant so much to so many by example of the way he led his life and embraced his family and friends.

A Memory of Steve

Steve was the kind of friend who made life better just by being in it. I think of all the times he showed up—not just in the big moments, but in the everyday ones too. He had this quiet way of being present that made you feel like you mattered, like your problems were worth his time and attention.
I'll always remember his laugh, the way his whole face lit up when he was behind the drums. There was something pure about watching him play—like all his focus and joy poured into that music. But what really defined Steve was his passion as a black belt kickboxing instructor. He brought that same dedication and discipline to the mat, teaching his students not just technique, but integrity, respect, and the confidence that comes from mastering your craft. He had a gift for pushing people to be stronger—physically and mentally—while making them feel supported every step of the way. His students weren't just learning kicks and punches; they were learning how to believe in themselves.
Beyond the dojo and the drums, Steve was out on the water fishing, finding peace in the quiet moments. He was the kind of husband and father his family could count on completely, grounded and dependable.
What struck me most was how Steve never needed recognition for helping others. He just did it. When things got tough for me, he was there without making a big deal about it—that's who he was. Steady. Reliable. Kind in a way that didn't require fanfare.
I'm going to miss our conversations, his humor, the ease of just being around him. Steve made being a good friend look effortless, and he raised the bar for all of us in how to show up for the people we love.
Thank you, Steve, for the memories, the laughs, and for teaching me what real friendship looks like. You'll always be my brother.

A loss to the world.
One of the brightest points in my time in dialysis. Made every day “one of the best” with his “ can - and will - do” attitude, giving always and demanding nothing during interactions with everyone.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I met Steve in the 70s when starting a job in dialysis.. a house on Forest Hill Ave. Steve was the one that kept it running, literally as he could fix anything. His smile humor and his love for life made many days much better. The patients loved him. He’d walk into the center and it was pure joy. We worked together for many years some of the best in my career which was 45+ years. I’m so happy I can call him my friend. May you rest in peace Steve.. I will see you one day.

When Susan Griffith hired me at the dialysis unit and took me out to tour the unit, Steve was the first person she introduced me to.  He made one of his funny comments about getting a new nurse at the unit…. We worked together at that unit and moved from that unit to Dabney Road.   All the patients and staff loved Steve.   He not only took care of the patients, but he entertained us all with his shenanigans.He and Trevino are the center of many of my favorite dialysis memories.

To Cathy and the boys…. I’m so sorry for your loss.  Know that your husband/dad was loved by many.

My heart is broken 💔 Steve and I were born a day apart, and we stayed that close, from the 8th grade on. He was not only  my best friend,  he was the best friend a person could ever have. Cam and Cullen, you’ll hear a lot of folks say what a good Man your Pop was. I will confirm that and add, he was the Best. Cathy, Susie, Cameron, Cullen, our prayers are with y’all, it’s a great loss. Remember always the joy, laughter and wisdom he brought and keep it with you, I know I will. I’ll always miss you Brother❣️

It's difficult to find words to express my sadness at Steve's passing; not because it doesn't hurt, knowing he's gone, but because I can't think about him without seeing his smile, which makes me smile. He was one of the most solid, righteous and above all quietly funny people I have ever known. When he married my sister Cathy, I didn't know what to make of him at first; they were so different. But it didn't take long to realize they were perfect for each other, which they proved for 41 years, through two wonderful sons, a shared and un-showy devotion to their faith. The minute I heard about Steve's passing I started missing him, and imagine I always will. That impish, mischievous, contagious grin. If there's a Heaven, I can't wait to see you again.

What can I say about Steve besides it was just a  real blessing knowing him.
I met Steve and his lovely family about 20 years ago at Grove Avenue Baptist Church. He and his wife were faithful members of church and Sunday School there.
It was a pleasure to get to know him not only on a spiritual level but a personal level as well. Steve had a Great sense of humor and always made me laugh. He was a wonderful man who dearly loved his family through the good times and the difficult times.
I had the pleasure of seeing Steve as a martial arts instructor in his dojo. I was super-impressed to see the respect that each and every student had for him!
I will miss my Brother immensely and pray for peace and grace for his family.

Even though I hadn't seen Steve in some time, I can't think of a better person...all who knew him, loved him.
