

A quiet man of strong principles, Wayne was known above all for his unwavering honesty and sense of responsibility. He was a longtime and faithful member of Fairmount Christian Church in Mechanicsville.
Born on May 13, 1944, Wayne was a graduate of Marshall University and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain. During his military career, he was stationed at several locations, including Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, where he met lively Personnel Specialist, Sgt. Wanda Shook, the love of his life. The two were married in the base chapel at Hickam, beginning a marriage that would span 53 years.
A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, Wayne remained loyal to his team through every season, a reflection of the steadfastness that defined his life.
He worked for many years selling Chevrolet vehicles at several dealerships in the Richmond area. Later, he worked as a service writer for Pep Boys Automotive, where he remained until his retirement. Even years later, when he was out and about, people would stop him to share how much they appreciated the fairness and integrity he showed them when helping them purchase a vehicle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Graham Toney and B. Virginia (Martin) Toney, and his much-loved grandchild, Zachary Griffin.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Wanda; daughter, Crystal; son, Ronald; devoted son-in-law, Norman Griffin; cherished grandchildren, Christopher and Suzanne. Wayne is also survived by brother, Jerry (Pat); sister, Janet (Rick); and youngest brother, Brian, the favorite. ;-), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Wayne will be remembered as a God-fearing man who faithfully studied his Bible each day, even in sickness. He lived quietly and humbly, never seeking attention, yet earning the respect of those around him. His legacy lives on through the family he loved deeply.

A celebration of life will be held at Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23111 on Saturday, May 9, at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends and family beginning at 2:00 p.m., prior to the service.
