Erik attended and graduated from Amelia County High School. During that time, he founded Harver Lawn Care as a teenage boy and saved money to purchase his first truck, a 1966 Ford F100. He then went on to attend and graduate from The University of Virginia. Upon graduating from college, Erik passed Harver Lawn Care on to his parents and spent the next 23 years as a regional parts salesman and manager in the heavy-duty truck industry. He recently went back to his lawncare roots and founded RedDirt Groundworks.
In his free time, Erik enjoyed hunting and harvesting deer and other wildlife with his son, and he recently developed a passion for bow hunting. He also enjoyed socializing; he didn’t know a stranger and could talk for hours, even though most of his stories began with “long story short”.
Erik took great pride in being 4 years and 8 months sober and felt a calling to assist, mentor, and encourage others on their journey through alcoholism to sobriety.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Beatrice Harver; maternal grandparents, Claud (Bill) and Arlean Whitaker; a very dear uncle, Franklin Hall; a feline companion, Prissy; and three K-9 companions, P.K., Mollie Ann, and Newton.
Erik is survived by his wife of 20 years, Tamara; son, William Erik Harver, Jr. (Liam); three K9 companions, Mosby, D‘Ann, and Mary-Ruth; parents, Norman and Barbara Harver; sister, Dawn Harver Wallace (Sam); in-laws, Wayne and Margie Lynn, Emily Poore (Greg), and Julie Garza (Matthew); nieces and nephews, Kris Wells (Staci), Dustin Milliner (Jacquelyn), Taylor, Parker, and Karter Poore, and Vance Garza. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 6100 Tabernacle Church Lane, Amelia Court House, VA 23002, where Erik was baptized, married, and a longtime member. A memorial service will be held at the same location at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2023, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a monetary memorial fund contribution to Liam Harver, Jr., care of Citizens Bank and Trust, PO Box 620 Amelia, VA 23002.
