

His family relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia in the 1950’s where he graduated from Lane High School.
Bill joined the US Marine Corp on October 28, 1966 and served heroically with his command in active duty in Vietnam until October 25, 1968. His body suffered greatly but he maintained his spirit as a proud American who helped protect our country.
Bill was a life long and very talented carpenter. He fine tuned his talent while working at Lennar Homebuilders while living in Florida. He eventually became a self employed carpenter in Virginia.
Bill was known for his sense of humor, compassion for those in need and his kind spirit. He was raised Catholic but renewed his faith by having a personal relationship with the Lord.
Bill moved from Florida to Virginia in 1997 to care for his beloved big brother Gerry. He met Sally Skeeters and they were married May 1, 1999. Their marriage was filled with love, fun and adventure for 27 years.
Bill is survived by his children; Amy Whelan (Shawn), Ft Defiance, VA and Amanda Locker, Royal Palm Beach, FL. along with his step children; Jackson Miller (Alex), Midlothian, VA and Melissa Miller (Matt Lesyk) USCG, Miami Fl. He has numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He had a special relationship being an “UB” to Erin Marley and Robin Cotterman.
He is also survived by his sister Nancy Hughitt and Vincent Koch.
Bill is preceded in death including his parents, his brother Gerry and his beloved sister, Mary and Thomas “Woody” Dixon.
Bill was well loved by all and left his mark by using humor to make this world a funner place to live in. Bill loved to fish. Bill’s passion was deep sea fishing at Ponce Inlet, Florida.
A special thank you to the VA Administration in Salem, the local VAclinic in Staunton and the Richmond VA. Their support is something our country should be proud of. They reminded Bill constantly that he deserved exceptional care because of his service to our country.
